PDF to Kindle
Read documents comfortably on your E-reader.
Reading PDFs on a Kindle or e-reader can be frustrating. The text is often too small, and zooming pans around the page instead of reflowing text. The solution? Convert PDF to Kindle format (AZW3 or KFX) or reflowable text.
This guide shows you how to optimize documents for the best reading experience on E-ink screens.
The Problem: Fixed vs. Reflowable
- PDF: A digital printout. Layout is frozen. On a small screen, you see a tiny full page.
- Kindle (MOBI/AZW3): Like a web page. Text "reflows" to fit the screen size, allowing you to increase font size comfortably.
Conversion Methods
- Send to Kindle (Email): Amazon's built-in tool. Send your PDF to your Kindle email address with the subject "Convert". Amazon will try to convert it for you.
- Calibre (Best Tool): The Swiss Army knife of e-books. Calibre (free software) allows detailed conversion settings, chapter detection, and metadata editing.
- K2pdfopt: A specialized tool for optimizing PDF for small screens without changing the format (smart cropping and reflowing of bitmaps).
